It is funny how motherhood transforms you. From being a self indulgent, blissfully ignorant young adult who thinks everything is under their control to a vulnerable, helpless, vigilant and precarious individual who is responsible for someone apart from themselves, being a parent truly slaps you in the face with all the loose ends in your life. You involuntarily get a panoramic view of all the little knots that could potentially break you apart and start to realize how fragile life in itself is. Slowly it starts mattering more what kind of a world you are living in, you want the world to be a better place for your child. That is when it finally dawns inside of you that you are in desperate need for guidance, the wisdom of your forefathers and grandmothers start making sense and you understand how important it is to pass on this wisdom to your child.
These letters composed from this mother to her dear daughter are small snippets of experiences, assimilated from the Hindu way of life. Our wise ancient Rishis have passed on pearls of wisdom that still withstand the test of time. Contemplating on the essence of these teachings, both simple yet profound, have helped me in the toughest of times. Hence, this is nothing but a humble effort from a mother, to try and ease the pain that the world can inflict on her daughter, to lessen her burdens and to light the lamp of hope in her heart, on the darkest of days.
